Katya began her production career working in film development at Robert De Niro's company Tribeca Productions. After putting in time as a PA and using her bilingual skills, she segued into commercial production at No Guns Pictures, a production company that specialized in the U.S. Hispanic Market. The Venice Beach-based company was run by the celebrated Uruguayan commercial director Fernando Vallejo, one of the pioneers of the overseas film making boom of the early 2000s. Katya quickly ascended from production coordinator to international producer, overseeing the U.S. launch of well-known commercial directors such as Andy Muschietti, Alejandro Toledo and Pucho Mentasti. During this time, she shot in the United States and all over South America, Mexico and Spain.
Based on her expertise in the market, in 2006 Katya was hired by legendary commercial and music video director Bob Giraldi to launch Catatonia Giraldi, a New York-based Hispanic market commercial production company, along with partners/directors Hari Sama and Arturo Pereyra. As Managing Director, in addition to directors Sama and Pereyra, Katya worked alongside such notables as Luis Mandoki, Esteban Sapir, Cesar Pesquera and Josh Marston and launched the U.S. career of Marcelo Burgos.
In the next phase of her career, Katya focused on post production while still occasionally producing live action. She’s worked in all aspects post, VFX and animation, for advertising agencies and production companies alike, and from micro to macro budgets. She’s worked on feature films, supervised post production with A-list editors and produced everything from commercials to short films, music videos to web content. While she spends much of her time jetting between Los Angeles, Buenos Aires, South Africa, Havana and beyond, she still calls the East Village in New York City her home. If you see her riding through the streets of Manhattan on her black beach cruiser, be sure to say hello.
